Connect to another JDBC database
BroadSQL connects to any database with a JDBC driver: the same steps apply, with the driver and the URL format of that database.
| Driver | Bundled for Apache Derby and HSQLDB; for any other database, its vendor's JDBC driver JAR in drivers. |
|---|---|
| URL format | the URL format of the vendor's JDBC driver |
| Example | see the vendor's driver documentation |
| Verified with BroadSQL | Depends on the database: see the vendor's documentation. |
Steps
- The driver: Apache Derby (embedded and client) and HSQLDB are included in BroadSQL. For another database, download its vendor's JDBC driver and copy the JAR into
drivers, then restart BroadSQL. - Check it:
SHOW DRIVERS;lists the drivers found, with their names and versions. - The connection:
ADD CONNECTION <id>;(orCONFIG;on Windows). Choose your database in the list of types, then give the URL in the format documented by the driver's vendor. - Test and open it:
PING <id>;, thenCONNECT <id>;.
If your database does not appear in the list of types, tell us which database and which driver you use.
What works on every database
Ordinary statements, the commands that browse tables and columns (DESCR, SHOW TABLES...) and DUMP work the same way on every database type reachable through a registered connection. A few behaviors depend on the type: see Behavior that differs by database type.
